Mom to the Rescue

Three people have been stung while enjoying our pool recently. So, we finally put a fogger under the deck to drive them away, and then Mom went on a mission to remove the nests and hives. This took me back to our caver days. The space under the deck is about 4 foot tall, so I had to crawl. I was armed with a dustpan (every mom's tool of choice), a rubber mallet (for the dirt dabber hives) and a can of bug spray. My hubby, Robert and Becki thought it was necessary to take my picture. My final words before leaving the safety of my home were "If I go to the hospital, at least I will get a nap."

Here is the result of my mission. One large active nest, and several smaller ones. You may ask why my husband didn't take on this job. Well, he is very allergic to fire ants, and we didn't want to take any chances. However, I only encountered two live wasps, and did not get stung. I did get very muddy.

  1. You are so brave! I'm glad you clarified why Shanon didn't do it because the whole time I'm reading I'm thinking . . . girl get your husband to do this job! I'm proud of you as I know I wouldn't have even attempted to do this myself . . . no way!
