I Love Fall!

Fall has always been my favorite season, probably because my birthday is at the end of October, and I love Halloween. But, I never really experienced Fall until we moved to Georgia in 2001. I was sitting in my car at a red light that Fall and heard something tapping on my car. I rolled down my window to see what was going on. Leaves were falling from the trees and rhythmically hitting my car. It was glorious! I know -- all of you who are from states were Fall is a regular occurrence, you think I am crazy. But, let me tell you about a Texas Fall. Day one: You notice that the leaves on the trees are not as green as they used to be. Day two: You wake up and all of the leaves are on the ground. Day three: Fall is over, it is now Winter. This would be an eventful Fall. Some people are not even blessed with a tree tall enough for the leaves to fall from. Then, the "bushes" are just bare. The good thing is, you don't have to rake leaves in Texas, they just blow away. Don't get me wrong, I love Texas! You will never see a sunrise or a sunset quite like Texas. It is aw inspiring to stand in one spot and see, uninhibited, the horizon miles and miles away. I often get claustrophobic in Georgia and Alabama due to the trees. We moved to Georgia in the Spring. When the first Fall was over I discovered neighbors I didn't even know I had because their houses were hidden behind the trees! So, I am going to try my first video clip on my blog -- not of my kids, but of a solitary leaf that must have been caught in a spider web. For those of you in Texas -- it is beautiful. For the rest of you, you can just ignore it -- you probably have one in your own back yard.

As I mentioned, my birthday is in the Fall. The weekend of my birthday, Shanon and I had our first date probably since our anniversary in December. We went to see "Fireproof". If you are married, or ever want to be married, you must see this movie. I can't say enough good things about it. The acting is not Academy Award performances. But, I heard that most of the acting was done by volunteers! If Shanon can enjoy it, you can. (Shanon is the ultimate movie critic!)

On Sunday of my birthday weekend, we took the kids to a corn maze near Huntsville. The leaves were just starting to change in the mountains and the drive was beautiful. The kids loved the maze, especially Talon. The first, and easier maze, was inhabited by cartoon characters giving out candy. We saw Clifford, Winnie the Pooh, Raggedy Ann, etc. Terrin was a little intimidated by the characters, but he loved being with "Dada" (he is a big Daddy's boy!) The second maze was just hard enough for us to get lost several times and to be grateful when we found our way out. Here are a few pictures of the kids in the "Corn Crib".

  1. I've seen Fireproof and loved it! Most are actors from Albany, GA. They also made Facing the Giants and you should see that movie too if you haven't already. I'm sure you and Shanon probably own that movie : )
